Terry is a wild young male Northland brown kiwi living in the Far North.
The newest addition to the Northland monitored kiwi crew, Terry gained his tiny leg-fitted radio transmitter in May 2023.
He is in great shape for his age, weighing in at 1630g – still some growing to do, he’s just a teenager really!
Too young to breed yet, it will be interesting to follow Terry’s explorations, attempts to find a mate and establish his own territory.
Terry lives in the Mahinepua – Radar Hill Landcare pest controlled area. The group named him in honour of Terry Hatch, a local who spent his life promoting wildlife conservation and the regeneration of native forests.
Recently, Terry has been emerging from his burrow right on sunset, and just like a typical teenager often doesn’t head back to bed until 4am!
What antics will Terry the teenager get up to? Is he going to get himself into trouble or stay on the straight and narrow and settle down into a quiet kiwi lifestyle?
