Meet Amy – our new Southern Coordinator

The Kiwi Coast Trust is thrilled to welcome Amy Kirk as our new Southern Kiwi Coast Coordinator.

Based in Whangarei, Amy will work south towards the Brynderwyns to provide support and assistance to the growing number of community groups and projects in the area.

Amy has a background in pest plant control, environmental education and working with rural communities.

Amy says “I’m really looking forward to working with community groups and projects from Whangarei south to the Northland border. Hopefully I can provide some extra support to help them reach their goals and connect together a little more.”

A couple of years back Amy and her family moved from Southland to Mangapai, where she connected with the local playcentre. “I have loved being part of this community we have made life long friends, so much so, even after buying a house in town we still drive out twice a week for playcentre.”

Now after three years of being a full time mum Amy is keen to get back into what she is skilled at, working with communities on environmental projects.

Amy is starting in a part time capacity with the Kiwi Coast Trust and brings the total Kiwi Coast Coordinator crew to four. She joins Lesley Baigent the Far North Coordinator, Andrew Mentor  the Mid North Coordinator  and Ngaire Sullivan the overall Kiwi Coast Coordinator. Together, the coordinators provide support and assistance to the 140+ groups, projects, agencies and organisations now linked in to the collaborative community-led initiative.

Amy can’t wait to meet all the groups and projects in her southern area: “Just as soon as we are all out of Covid-19 lockdown I’ll be out and about meeting projects and finding out how best I can help”.

Kiwi Coast Trust Chairman, John Craig says “We are thrilled to have Amy on the team and wish to thank Foundation North for their generous grant which made the new Southern Coordinator role possible. Growing our team of Coordinators is essential as the momentum of Kiwi Coast continues at a rapid pace. Continuing to provide quality support to groups and projects so that Northland forests and kiwi can thrive are our top priorities.”
