Kiwi Coast Trust has now completed it’s 2020 Annual Report, which presents the key activities and achievements of the past 12 months.
Key highlights include:

- Over the past 7 years, 396,634 animal pests have been trapped by groups and projects involved in Kiwi Coast.
- The Kiwi Coast crew has increased to 2 full time and 2 part-time coordinators, with additional support now in place for the Far North and Southern areas of Northland.
- While the Covid-19 pandemic, prevented a number of scheduled activities and events from taking place, our network remained strong.
- 11 skill building workshops were still held and a further 2,814 people attended Kiwi Coast supported events and workshops, taking the total number of attendees over the last 7 years to 16,187 people.
- Monitoring results showed that while kiwi have been impacted by drought, other rare species populations such as pateke continued to increase and expand.
- Two successive summers of drought have reinforced the need to build resilient communities within robust native ecosystems that can withstand extreme events.
Kiwi Coast Coordinator Ngaire Sullivan says:
“Huge thanks to all those working relentlessly to ensure our native forests, wildlife and kiwi can thrive across Northland. Together we are making a tangible difference. Kiwi Coast Trust also thanks partners NRC, key funders Foundation North, generous donors and the growing band of Follow a Kiwi sponsors, whose contributions help sustain the work being carried out”
