The first Northland brown kiwi chicks along the Kiwi Coast have hatched for the season at Whangarei Heads!
Todd Hamilton from Backyard Kiwi visited JR, a kiwi dad nesting up on Taurikura Ridge on Friday September 12. The chick timer on JR’s leg showed that after 83 days of nesting JR had hatched 2 chicks.
Helen Moodie from Backyard Kiwi says: ‘Thanks to this early nest it is highly likely that JR will nest again this season and produce more chicks – another kiwi dad doing his bit for the kiwi population at Whangarei Heads!”
