Congratulations to Bay Bush Action hitting the milestone of 1000 possums!
Starting on just 50 hectares of public conservation land three years ago, 250 hectares is now actively protected by pest control and the milestone of catching 1000 possums has been reached. All the traps were carried in and serviced by volunteers. Craig Salmon, trustee and volunteer trapper with Bay Bush Action sends thanks out to all those who have volunteered and donated traps, as well as the Department of Conservation the Northland Regional Council for their ongoing support.
Craig says “The forest is a much happier, healthier place thanks to you”. Signals that the forest is already recovering is the flowering red rata vine in full flower at the moment, being feasted on by a noisy bunch of tui. Restoring this vital nectar source in these cold winter months really helps tui get in prime condition for breeding.
